Good morning! Today is Mother's Day and my kids are blessed greatly to have an awesome mother Beth Doyle Tate (aka The Freshmaker aka The Silent Guardian) who doesn't get enough credit for all that she does.
You see Beth has had quite the year - she was pregnant with twins and had a tough go of it with a pregnancy as complex as putting together Ikea furniture blind-folded while drifting through space in a meteor field while listening to Nickelbak. She was in great pain for most of it (if you count wanting to scratch your skin off all day) and soldiered through it with more grace that could be expected from any of us.
Beth doesn't make a big deal out of Mother's Day normally as her heart goes out to all those that have lost children or their mothers or are grieving through the difficulties of infertility. She leads an infertility support group to help others through this journey with the secondary purpose of eating muffins from what I can tell. For those for whom today is difficult please know we are thinking and praying for you today.
I just wanted to give her a quick shout-out for all that she does to keep our 2+ month old twins and 3 and 6 year olds happy and healthy. I don't really know how to tell her about how much we love all that she does to love us. I sat down and made a list of things that I could do:
- Flowers
- Jewelry
- Jewelry made of flowers
- Flowers made of jewelry
- Matching neck tattoos
- Invent a new version of the iPad that is straight outta the 80s called the iRad that would make her laugh and satisfy her every computing need
- Finally record a country album dedicated to her (title track: I'm in love with the girl from the Denny's that done burned down)
- Buy her a king mattress so that she doesn't have to hear or smell me as closely (mattress is to be placed on top of me while I sleep).
- Take her to a Justin Timberlake concert even though she mentioned how expensive the tickets were and even brought it up the night before Mother's Day making it really awkward for me because I had already planned on getting tickets and had gotten my NSync t-shirt dry-cleaned already I mean man come on like really.
- Waffle House giftcard
I couldn't come up with anything that seemed on the right scale for the sum of all the little things that you do without credit for us everyday. There is no way to thank you for all that you do - because it is who you are that we love.
After seeing Beth this year it isn't an understatement to say that she has inspired me to be a better parent and man. Watching your wife deliver twins makes you realize that she isn't just a woman or a wife but a !@%$ force of nature. How do you thank a force of nature? Great wind Mr. Wind see you next time.
For the purest and most powerful there simply are not words. To you Beth my dearest bride I say thank you and I love you. The kids are too young to thank you and I'm too stupid to thank you enough or often enough for the million things that you do for us. Our lives are enriched by having you.
